Jil is a very personal project for us. We were commissioned to design a newly built rooftop restaurant in the centre of Heidelberg with a breath-taking view of the city. Due to the pandemic, however, it took nearly four years to complete. The restaurant finally opens to public in 2022.
Jil embodies an inspiring and joyful atmosphere and offers French-inspired food coupled with contemporary design elements that feature stylish, playful details. A stucco work by the artist Maximilian Arnold guides the guests from the entrance through the lounge and into the heart of the restaurant. Most of the furniture is custom-made for the project, including the benches, tables, and lamps, as well as the custom-built bar made of bespoke terrazzo that uses local stones gathered from the Rhine river. The roughly 130 m2 rooftop terrace offers a unique view over the Neckar valley, Heidelberg’s historic old town, and the famous Heidelberg Castle.
